Jyoti Sarolia

chief operating officer
Ellis Hospitality, AAHOA ambassador, South Pacific Region

Jyoti has served as Ambassador, South Pacific Region since 2015 and on the Franchise & Industry Relations (F.A.I.R.) Committee since 2017.  A special interest for her is government advocacy, so she regularly participates in legislative summits – so far, three in Sacramento and eight in Washington, D.C.

In 2017, she won AAHOA’s prestigious Outstanding Woman Hotelier of the Year Award.

Jyoti grew up in the hospitality business – literally.  Until age 11, she lived at the Alder Hotel owned by her family in San Francisco, where she learned first-hand about responsibilities from housekeeping to front desk management.

After attending law school in San Diego for a year, Jyoti returned to the hospitality roots of her parents and grandparents.  She bought her first hotel in 1996 and today she is a third-generation hotelier directing a portfolio of seven properties as Chief Operating Officer of Ellis Hospitality.   The company name honors New York City’s Ellis Island, where many family members entered this country as immigrants to pursue the American dream.

For Jyoti, a core commitment is “giving back.”  Since 2007, she has served on the Choice Hotels Owners Council (CHOC), rising this year to the position of Chair – the first woman to hold this position after 50 years.

She has been a board member with the Temecula Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce.  From 2014 through 2018, she was Samaj Chair for the Asian American Cultural Society of San Diego.

Now, Jyoti respectfully and humbly wants to serve AAHOA members — and the hospitality industry she loves — as an AAHOA Director at Large.
